DESIGN STUDIO 3
JOURNEY OF THE 5 SENSES (MEMORIALS)
In this assignment, in a group of 5, we had to propose 2 designs on a public building which is a memorial, where one is concentrical and the other is linear which had to follow the 2 incidents that happened recently - Rohingya refugees & Kinabalu earthquake. Firstly, we had to research on precedent studies to refer back to our memorials. The first memorial is Hagia Sophia while the other is Japanese Immegration Memorial. We had to extract the poetics of the architecture and spaces of the two buildings and apply them to our memorial in other architectural way.

For this assignment, we went to Sungai Lembing, Pahang to discover the place and mainly looking for inspiration on how to design our Visitor Interpretive Centre there. We went down into the mining tunnels and up high in the Panorama Hills. We were assigned to sketch a few of things that insipired us and to extract the characteristics into our design. After we got back, we were to compile our sketches and make a pin up on how our design strategies are. I find this assignment very interesting because the place that we went to were full of ideas and inspiration.
VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE
Project 3
For the final project, I had to design a Visitor Interpretive Centre @ Sungai Lembing itself. The design strategies was mainly focused in Project 2 and improvements made here. My concept was on the attachment of the locals for their history of Sungai Lembing. I found that they were very happy when we confronted them and asked about their history. They always answered with a big smile on their face. Throughout the assignment, I've learned more about poetics, architectural board language and many more.

MEMORIALS
Throughout this assignment, I've learned on how to master architectural poetics through design. Poetic is how you experience when you saw the building in the first place from afar. Then, what you feel when you walk into the building and out of the building. Every step of the way has to be a different experience to have a good poetic building. In this case, playing with the human 5 senses is a good way to start.
